Student (Temporary) (Class TU) (Subclass 500) is a temporary visa that allows international students to study in Australia for the length of their course. Generally, It is valid for up to 5 years in line with the student’s enrolment. This does not prevent students from applying for further student visas to allow them to study in Australia for more than five years if they cannot complete their course during the given visa period.

If your current visa is about to expire and you are willing to stay in Australia for your further studies, you may need to apply for another student visa to extend the period of stay. You can include family members of your family unit when lodging your student visa application.
A family member is; your partner or your or your partner's dependent child who is unmarried and has not turned 18.
You must declare your family members in your student visa application even if they do not plan to travel with you to Australia. If you do not do this, your family members will not be eligible for a student visa to join you in Australia.
Subsequent Entrant
It is to be used where the family members are applying separately and want to join you after you’ve commenced your studies or if someone becomes your dependent after your visa has been granted.
